Nantucket

I'm so lucky to have called Nantucket a travel destination since meeting my Boston-born husband over a decade ago, whose family has ties to the island. I hail from the west coast but have come to love the quaint ways of this east coast gem. On our most recent trip (summer, 2026) I became positively smitten with rose hip. This collection currently boasts many works capturing the pinks and oranges of the fun botanical. I expect it'll grow to feature shorelines and sand dunes before long.

Gathering the Reference

As has become custom with my travel-based painting, I tend to gather inspiration in situ in the form of photography and small sketches. (I'm not yet one for en plein air painting, and frankly - cannot find the necessary window for "flow state" on trips where my young children trail along - ha!)

I mainly work from memory once back in my Denver-based studio, though printing photos helps jog the memory and help ensure I capture certain details (like, a marking on a leaf, or a combination of colors.) Nantucket flower paintings in progress in the studio

From Island Walks to Paint

I am not one for perfect representation. I am interested in the space between a remembered landscape and an imagined one. These rose hip paintings feature distinct markings of rose hip, though allow real details to reach into imagined and exaggerated territory. I had so much fun with these! Four pieces sold the day I released the collection.
